The Development of Mega Man TurboCharged
The development of this Saturday morning feeling cartoon, didn't just happen. It took some time. At The Cartoon News, we have interviewed Owen Morris Junior (Twitter: @owenmorrisjr) and asked him a few question about Turboc. Lets dive in, shall we. History: Turboc wasn't originally created as a Mega Man cartoon. Actually it was supposed to be Mighty Number 9: The Animated Series. Cartoon Network (Twitter: @cartoonnetwork) didn't like the idea. At all. Owen had watched Mega Man: Fully Charged and thought he could redo that in his own way. He called it Mega Man: TurboCharged (not to be confused with Fully Charged). He pitched the idea to Cartoon Network and got a instant Green Light.
Question 1:
Q: How old were you when you pitched the idea of Mighty No. 9?
A: I was about 14 by then.
Q: When was this?
A: In 2016.
Q: How did you get the name TurboCharged?
A: We already had Fully Charged. And I wanted to have get the show a cool name. First I was thinking about calling it The Adventures of Mega Man. But, that didn't seem fitting and cool enough. Then I thought about my car. What does it have? A TURBOCHARGER! Actually its a Twin - Turbocharger. But, I didn't want a long name. That's how I got the name.
Q: How old were you when you pitched TurboCharged?
A: I was 16 at that time. Im young, I know.
Q: How old are you today?
A: Im 20.
The development process was "slow and dreadful." Taking hours and even days with no sleep.
Q: How long did you stay up working on this?
A: I had to go to High School. But, I stayed up until 2 o'clock in the morning. Then I would get 5 hours of sleep.
This process took 2 1\2 years to make. As long as Fully Charged. When Fully Charged had its first premiere on Television, Turboc wasn't done being developed, yet. Turboc was put to the shelf and people forgot about it. Until a Tweet came in. It was from Cartoon Network. Stating: "Mega Man is coming back." People thought it was Fully Charged Season 2. Others thought it was 90's Mega Man. People went on popular sites like: FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram, SnapChat and Reddit to take on this unfamiliar Cartoon Network Tweet. "I can't believe we get a season 2...." - A user on Reddit. "We have some news. Mega Man is coming back. This time in a new Television series" - Cartoon Network - FaceBook. As the news began to sweep the internet, CN had put the first 5 episode's for FREE on the Cartoon Network App. People watched, People enjoyed, People shared.
Q: What did you think when your show got a massive following in only two weeks'
A: I thought I was crazy. I didn't think it would be this popular that fast! I mean, I thought it was gonna be a little thing in its little place.
So, as you can see, TurboCharged is massively popular and a hit with Mega Man fans in general. "Its that MEGA MAN SHOW!!"
